Norfolk NAS Chapel

Sunday, June 7, 2015

This morning we walked to the NAS chapel for the Protestant services.  The maps for the base aren't current on the base website, on mapquest, and on printed base literature.  The listed address was correct, and that aimed us in the general direction, so off we went.  We mistakenly thought we saw the chapel steeple in yon horizon, and quickly discovered that we were at a 1907 replica of Independence Hall.  The walk was interesting through the historic homes built in the 1907 Jamestown project.  The housing is assigned to flag officers.
The chaplain who delivered the inspirational message was the regional chaplain, in Norfolk for a visit.  The congregation was small, but the regional chaplain said over 6,000 people (mostly sailors) lived within easy walking distance of the chapel.
I guess the Naval museum moved from where it was ten years ago, which was between the marina and the chapel.  The new location is not within walking distance, through we may try to get there one day this week.
I am continuing the blog with photos of the Harborfest.
