Mulberry Cove Marina to Black Creek

Sunday, May 3, 2015

This morning the dogs and I enjoyed a pre-dawn walk, frolicking around the gorgeous Mulberry Cove Marina area grounds.
Within a 35 minute walk from the marina is the commissary and NEX, both of which are huge by Key West standards!  The base was quiet on Sunday morning, we walked past this cool sign, and the base chapel, which didn't have services until 11:00.
After re-stocking my beef-snack supply, and spending too much money at the NEX, we returned to the marina.  Our walk to the marina was primarily to buy a lightning to SD card reader to upload photos from our cameras to our iPads.  Over the next couple of days, I'll add some of the camera photos to our earlier trip posts, since we now have the technology!
We got underway and moved to the pump-out area, where I fought with the pump for an hour, trying to get it to work a little better.  Much of the end of the hose is collapsed, the pump is a long ways from the pump-out station, and it got a little tedious.

It was too gorgeous a day to be bumfuzzled for long, however, as we continued up the St. John's River to Black Creek.  The creek is gorgeous, lined with great trees, and runs 30' deep in much of the length.
I heard someone calling the in-bound tug at Black Creek, and realized it was my friend Bill, coming out to greet us, and escort us to his dock!  I had heard his "Tug Jr." was cute, and had seen a photo, but, nothing quite did it justice as seeing his mini Nordic Tug replica, color red of course, to match his Nordic Tug Tugnacious.
A boat with Matthew and Heidi on it took photos as we passed, and came by after we'd docked to get our emails to send us some photos.  Thanks guys!
What a fun escort up the creek!
Bill and Diane are great hosts, and grilled chicken and corn, with salad, and carrots, and an ice chest full of diet cokes, teas, and water! Standing on their porch looking at the boats passing in the creek is as much fun as standing on the deck and admiring their gorgeous landscaping.

I'll post more photos tomorrow if Bill doesn't run us off his dock too quickly!
